Gunter Classes Started Monday. Tuesday Is the Cutoff to Ride the Bus Next Week.

Gunter ISD began the 2026-27 year Aug. 10. Families who have not registered for the bus have until Tuesday to be eligible for the week of Aug. 17, and enrolling in school does not enroll a child on a bus.

Gunter ISD opened the 2026-27 school year Monday, Aug. 10.

For families still sorting out the bus, the district's registration calendar has a deadline this week that is easy to miss.

Tuesday is the deadline for next week

Gunter ISD sets bus registration deadlines by week, not once for the year.

The cutoff to ride during the first week of school, Aug. 10 through 13, was Thursday, July 30. That one has passed.

The cutoff to ride during the second week, Aug. 17 through 20, is Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The district is unambiguous about what missing it means: students who are not registered before those deadlines will not be eligible to ride the bus until Monday, Aug. 24.

Enrolling in school does not put your child on a bus

Three rules the district spells out, each of which catches families every year.

Bus registration is completely separate from school registration. Registering a child for school does not register them to ride. It is a different form.

Last year does not carry over. Even a student who rode all of last year must be registered again, because routes are rebuilt each year.

AM and PM are separate. Students are routed on the information provided, so a child registered only for the morning route is eligible only for the morning route. Families who need transportation both directions have to register for both.

Any change to an address, or adding a morning or afternoon route, requires submitting a new bus registration form rather than a phone call.

Where to get route updates

The district asks families to join its ParentSquare transportation group, which is where daily route updates are posted. That is the channel for a bus running late or a route change, so it is worth joining before it is needed.

Gunter ISD also publishes a Bus Rider Handbook covering conduct and stop rules.

Who to call

Transportation is run by director Nicole Mann, reachable at 903-696-1500 or nmann@gunterisd.org. Mann has been with Gunter ISD since 2018 and previously drove routes for Aubrey, Prosper and Tom Bean ISDs.
