Clement’s 10th-inning homer pushes Blue Jays past Astros 5-4

Clement breaks the tie

Toronto Blue Jays 5, Houston Astros 4: Clement delivered the decisive swing on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, hitting a 391-foot, two-run homer to left in the 10th inning at Daikin Park in Houston.

Houston scored in the bottom of the 10th. Alvarez singled to right, Peña scored, and Alvarez was out trying to stretch the hit to second. Houston challenged the call, but it was upheld, leaving Toronto in front by one run before the final.

Houston strikes first

Houston took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left. Walker then doubled to left, scoring Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker.

Toronto did not score until the sixth. Okamoto singled to center, scoring Straw, to make it 3-1. Sánchez then tied the game with a 398-foot homer to right, with Okamoto scoring on the play. Those were Toronto’s first three runs, and the score remained 3-3 until Clement’s homer in the 10th.

Bullpen work holds the margin

Jameson Taillon allowed three earned runs on six hits in 4.0 innings for Toronto, with two walks and four strikeouts. Spencer Miles followed with 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out two.

Mason Fluharty pitched 1.0 hitless inning with two strikeouts, Tyler Rogers worked 1.0 inning with one hit allowed, and Louis Varland pitched 1.0 hitless inning with one strikeout and earned the win to improve to 4-4. Chase Lee allowed one hit in 1.0 inning and earned his first save.

Hunter Brown allowed three earned runs on three hits in 6.0 innings for Houston, walking two and striking out eight. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched 1.0 hitless, scoreless inning. Bennett Sousa took the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing two hits and one earned run in 1.0 inning.

Records

The Blue Jays improved to 54-61 with the win. The Astros fell to 59-57. Attendance at Daikin Park was 27,751.
