Trammell's three-run homer sends Astros past Blue Jays 7-2

Trammell breaks the game open

The final line Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park was Houston Astros 7, Toronto Blue Jays 2. Trammell supplied the biggest swing for Houston, homering to right field in the fifth inning with Walker and Altuve aboard. The 388-foot drive was the only home run of the game and turned a one-run Houston lead into a 6-2 margin.

Altuve also drove in two runs on singles, and Walker scored twice in Houston's seven-run total.

Fourth-inning start

Houston moved ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Diaz singled to left and brought in Altuve, with Trammell moving to second. Smith followed with a single to left, and Trammell scored on an error. Smith was safe at second on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, and Diaz was safe at third on an error, giving Houston a 2-0 lead.

Toronto tied it in the top of the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, then scored on Wesneski's wild pitch, making it 2-2.

Fifth-inning swing

Houston answered in the bottom half. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop that scored Alvarez and moved Walker to second. Trammell then homered to right, scoring Walker and Altuve ahead of him for a 6-2 Houston lead.

Houston added its final run in the bottom of the seventh when Altuve singled to center to score Walker.

Pitching and records

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, improving to 2-0 after allowing four hits and two earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Bennett Sousa pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout, and Enyel De Los Santos went 2.0 innings with one hit, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, falling to 1-1 after giving up seven hits and six earned runs with four walks and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings. Trey Yesavage worked 2.0 innings with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts.

Braydon Fisher had 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout; Brendon Little allowed two hits and one earned run with one walk and no strikeouts in 1.0 inning; and Mason Fluharty pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts.

The announced attendance at Daikin Park was 30,450. The Astros are 59-56 after the win, and the Blue Jays are 53-61.
