Astros offense explodes in second inning
The Houston Astros delivered a decisive offensive blow in the second inning, capitalizing on a grand slam by Yordan Peña and a two-run homer from Alvarez to take control of the game against the Miami Marlins. The five-run inning proved to be the turning point in the 8-5 final.
Peña’s home run to right field, measuring 340 feet, drove in four runs, shifting the momentum firmly in Houston’s favor. Alvarez followed with a 428-foot shot to right center, adding another run to the tally. The Astros’ bats were particularly active in the frame, with Alvarez also hitting a 419-foot homer to right center in the fifth inning to extend the lead.
Pitching struggles define early game
Miami Marlins starter Janson Junk faced a difficult outing, allowing six earned runs over four innings while striking out three batters. He was charged with the loss, dropping his record to 4-6. The Marlins’ bullpen, including Lake Bachar and Dax Fulton, attempted to stabilize the game but could not contain the Houston lineup.
For the Astros, Ronel Blanco pitched 4.2 innings, striking out eight batters but giving up four earned runs. Enyel De Los Santos secured the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, improving his record to 1-3.
Steven Okert earned the save with a perfect inning, his 13th of the season, while Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader closed out the game, with Hader allowing one earned run in his appearance.
