Astros Take Control in the Sixth
Houston secured a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on Thursday, driven by key offensive production and a strong pitching performance from Hayden Wesneski. The win improved Houston’s record to 55-55, while the Angels fell to 42-67.
The game began with the Astros jumping out to an early lead. In the top of the first inning, Grissom doubled to left field, bringing Neto and Trout home to make it 2-0. Adell followed with a single to left, scoring Grissom for a 3-0 advantage.
The Angels responded in the bottom of the second when Diaz homered to left-center field (425 feet), cutting the deficit to 3-1. Houston regained momentum in the third inning as Peña launched a home run to center field (401 feet), extending the lead to 4-1.
Wesneski Earns First Victory
Wesneski pitched 5.2 innings for the win, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out four batters. He was supported by a bullpen effort that included Bennett Sousa (1.1 IP), Steven Okert (0.2 IP), and Bryan Abreu (1.1 IP) who recorded his seventh save.
The Astros’ offense exploded in the sixth inning to put the game away. Smith doubled to left, driving in Diaz and Trammell. Two subsequent wild pitches by Angels reliever Mitch Farris allowed Smith to score twice more, pushing the score to 6-3. In the seventh, Diaz reached on an infield single to first, scoring Altuve for a 7-3 lead.
