Late Inning Surge Turns Tide
The Houston Astros overcame an early deficit by capitalizing on defensive miscues in the ninth inning, scoring four unearned runs to secure a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on Tuesday.
Los Angeles jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings, fueled by timely hitting from their outfielders. Grissom provided early offense with a single that scored Trout in the first, followed by a solo home run to left-center in the third. Adell added another run with a double in the same frame.
Houston responded in the fourth inning when Trammell homered to center field, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Astros continued to chip away at the lead in the eighth inning when Alvarez singled and Peña scored, making it 4-2 entering the final period.
Ninth Inning Chaos Seals Win
The game changed dramatically in the bottom of the ninth with the Angels leading 4-2. Spence reached base before Trammell scored on a fielding error by second baseman Grissom, who was also called for another error that allowed Allen to reach third.
Paredes then hit a pitch that was initially ruled out but upheld after challenge, allowing Spence to score and tying the game at 4-4.
The rally continued as Wade Jr. walked, bringing in Peña to give Houston the lead. Alvarez scored on a fielding error by pitcher Sam Bachman, who threw Altuve safe at first while Smith reached second. The final run came when Altuve advanced to third on another error by Bachman, completing the four-run inning.
