Montgomery single to right field that scored Murakami.
Meidroth was then hit by a pitch, driving in Vargas to make it 3-0. Chicago added two more runs in the fifth inning, with Benintendi scoring twice on wild pitches by Houston’s Kai-Wei Teng, and Meidroth doubling to center to score B. Montgomery.
Walker and Smith Lead the Charge
Houston’s comeback began in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wade Jr. singled to right field to score Alvarez, cutting the deficit to 5-1. The momentum shifted dramatically when Walker doubled to left field, driving in three runs to give the Astros a 6-5 lead.
Smith followed with a home run to left field, measuring 383 feet, which extended the lead to 8-5. Altuve reached on an infield single to score Peña, and Wade Jr. walked to bring Alvarez home, making the score 9-5.
