The Houston Astros delivered a comprehensive offensive performance to defeat the visiting Sacramento Athletics 13-2 on Sunday at Sutter Health Park. The victory improved the Astros' record to 80-81, while the Athletics fell to 64-97.
Houston jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Paredes launched a home run to left field, measuring 374 feet. This solo shot gave the Astros a 1-0 advantage that they would never relinquish.
Offensive Surge
The Astros expanded their lead significantly in the third inning. Peña connected for a home run to center field, traveling 417 feet, which scored two runs and pushed the score to 3-0.
A major shift occurred in the fifth inning when Alvarez homered to right field, a shot that traveled 401 feet. This powerful blast drove in three runs, including Smith and Peña, sending the Astros ahead 6-1. The offensive pressure continued into the seventh inning, where Houston scored four more runs.
Altuve singled to left to score Peña, followed by a sacrifice fly from Walker that brought Paredes home. Spence then doubled to right, allowing Altuve to cross the plate, making it 9-1.
The Athletics managed a brief response in the seventh when White singled to left to score Gelof, making the score 9-2. However, Houston immediately answered in the eighth inning. Peña hit another home run, this one to left field for 425 feet, scoring two runs and extending the lead to 11-2. Altuve added an RBI single later in the frame to make it 12-2.
