Gunter’s fiscal 2027 budget leaves three city positions and a volunteer firefighter pay program unfunded, according to City Manager Hayden Brodowsky’s Oct. 1 letter explaining the adopted spending plan.
The letter says the volunteer fire department will continue protecting the community and the EMS contract with Grayson County remains funded. It identifies the discontinued fire spending as the on-call and shift-pay program, plus a proposed attack vehicle and associated equipment.
One Police Department position, the administrative coordinator and one Development Services position also lose funding. Two Public Works positions remain, with their costs shifted entirely to the Streets Fund.
Brodowsky said the firefighter pay program had grown from about $39,800 in fiscal 2024–25 to $110,000 in 2025–26. It helped increase station staffing, he wrote, but recurring General Fund revenue could not sustain that level. Further council discussion and possible solutions will appear on future agendas.
