Road shutout

The Dallas Stars beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 at KeyBank Center on Thursday night, and Jake Oettinger stopped all 26 shots he faced for his second straight shutout.

Rantanen leads the offense

Mikko Rantanen had a point on every Dallas goal, finishing with one goal and three assists. Wyatt Johnston added three assists.

Period by period

Jason Robertson opened the scoring at 9:03 of the first period with his second goal of the season, set up by Rantanen and Johnston. The 1-0 lead held through the first intermission.

Dallas pulled away with three goals in the second period. Sam Steel scored his first goal of the season at 9:36, assisted by Thomas Harley and Rantanen. Rantanen made it 3-0 at 13:57 on a backhand, with assists from Nils Lundkvist and Johnston.

Roope Hintz finished the scoring at 15:34 with a power-play goal, his first of the season, from Johnston and Rantanen. It was the Stars' first power-play goal this season. Neither team scored in the third period.

Postgame notes

Both teams are 2-2-0. Dallas has won two in a row, including a 5-0 home win over San Jose on Monday. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 14 saves for Buffalo. Attendance was 19,070.
