Three adults were hurt Wednesday afternoon when an 18-wheeler and a recreational vehicle pulling a Jeep collided and caught fire on U.S. 82 in Whitesboro.

The crash happened around 12:42 p.m. near the entrance to the Lucky Stop convenience store, KTEN reported, citing initial reports.

Whitesboro Fire Chief Jeff Patterson told the station that four people were in the RV: three adults and a child. One adult was sent to the Parkland burn center in Dallas, and the other two were admitted to Texoma Medical Center in Denison. The child was not injured, and neither was the semi's driver, Patterson said.

KXII crews at the scene saw the semi and a second large vehicle in flames, and a burned car was later towed away, the station reported.

Departments from across the area

Firefighters from Whitesboro, Sherman and Pilot Point worked to put out the fire, according to KTEN. The Sherwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department said on social media that it was among several departments called to what it described as a "critical incident," KXII reported.

All eastbound lanes of U.S. 82 were closed for several hours, while westbound traffic was squeezed from two lanes to one during the response, the two stations reported.

Officials had not released the names of those hurt or said what caused the collision as of Wednesday evening.
