The Gunter Municipal Development District has called a special meeting for Thursday, Oct. 8, with a slate of economic development items that includes a pitch from a public relations firm, an update on a downtown land purchase and a possible incentive for a pet-grooming business.

The board meets at 5:30 p.m. in the Gunter Public Safety Building, 105 N. Fourth St., according to the agenda City Secretary Detra Gaines posted Oct. 2. Residents may speak during citizen comments, with a three-minute limit per speaker.

On the agenda

  • Public relations proposal. Marc Rylander and Mary Ann Moon of GRPR are scheduled to present an overview of the firm's proposed services and answer board questions about a scope of work covering public relations, government relations, strategic communications and public affairs.
  • 305 W. Main Street. The board will get an update on its purchase of the property at that address.
  • 101 S. Preston Road. Members will discuss the property's new ownership and a potential district project to help with site improvements there.
  • Barks N Bubbles. The board will hear a presentation and could give staff direction on a possible economic development project or incentive for the business and its CEO, Theresa Milan.
  • Growth forum. Members may approve a promotional or operational expenditure for a 2027 special event, the Gunter Economic Growth Forum.

The consent agenda covers the district's financial reports for June, July, August and September.

The board may also go into closed session under the Texas Open Meetings Act's economic development exception to discuss a project the agenda identifies only as Esplanade, with any resulting action taken afterward in open session.

The meeting comes a week after the city published its adopted fiscal 2027 budget, which closed a projected recurring General Fund gap of about $730,000.
