The Grayson County burn ban that the City of Gunter shared with residents in September is no longer in effect. KXII reported that the ban was lifted on Friday, Oct. 2, after rain.
The city's notice said the Commissioners Court order applied to the county's unincorporated areas and was set to run through Sept. 30, unless the court ended it early or extended it.
People burning in the unincorporated county must still follow the Grayson County Fire Marshal's rules: register the burn on the day by calling 903-813-4411, stay with the fire, burn only during daylight, use only natural debris from the property, and skip burning when winds reach 23 mph. The county can reimpose a ban if drought conditions return.
Collinsville Fire Chief Damon Stewart told KXII that fall can be a deceptively risky time to burn because dead grass dries quickly after rain.
Gunter is about 15 miles from Sherman. The full county rules are on our Sherman site: https://sherman.city/article/grayson-county-burn-ban-lifted-but-fire-officials-warn-dry-grass-remains-a-risk
